Thanksgiving Side Dish Recipes

Thanksgiving Side Dish Recipes
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. - Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching which means you're either preparing to have family and friends over, or thinking about a dish to take to someone else's feast. Either way, we've come up with a few Thanksgiving side dish recipes that everyone will love.

Thanksgiving Side Dish Recipes1. Green Bean Casserole. This classic dish is super easy to make and always a traditional dish to serve at Thanksgiving dinner. For this you'll need:
  • 2 (15 oz) cans cut green beans, drained
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (2.8 oz) can French fried onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste
First, you'll want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Then, in a medium casserole dish, mix together green beans, milk, cream of mushroom soup, and 1/2 of the can of onions. Bake for 25  minutes until bubbly, sprinkle the remaining onions on the top, and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Then pull it out of the oven, let cool and season with salt and pepper.

2. Cranberry Sauce. This is always a Thanksgiving staple. You'll need:
  • 12 oz. bag of fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 1 strip orange or lemon zest
Empty your 12 oz. bag of cranberries into a saucepan, taking 1/2 cup of the bag and putting it into a small bowl. Add your sugar, zest and 2 tbsp. water to the pan and cook over low heat. You'll stir and cook the mixture until the sugar dissolves and the cranberries are soft - about 10 minutes. Increase the heat to medium and cook until the cranberries burst - about 12 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cranberries you set aside. Add sugar, salt and pepper to taste and let cool before serving.

3. The BEST Mashed Potatoes. Not only are these potatoes easy to make, they are also super delicious. You'll need:
  • 5 lbs. Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup chopped fresh chives
  • 1 1/2 cups cream cheese
  • 1/2 medium head garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste
First, bring a pot of salted water to boil. Second, add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm. You'll want to then drain the potatoes and return to the stove over low heat to dry for a minute or two. After this time has passed, you'll add the butter, parmesan cheese, chives, garlic, salt and pepper, and then use a potato masher to mash until smooth.

4. Cornbread Stuffing with Sausage. Cornbread and sausage? Always delicious! You'll need:
    Thanksgiving Side Dish Recipes
  • 1 lb. ground sausage
  • 2 cups chopped celery
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 5 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 5 cups seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 3/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 1 tsp. sage
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees and then place the sausage, celery and onions in a large deep skillet. Cook over medium heat until evenly brown, drain, crumble and set aside. In a large bowl, combine sausage mixture with cornbread, bread crumbs, chicken broth, poultry seasoning and sage. After mixing well, transfer the mixture to a baking dish and bake covered for 45 minutes.
