Well, at the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration in Oshkosh, Wisonsin that unique 'Stang raised a lot of money for a great cause! On August 1st, the 2014 U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Ford Mustang sold for $398,000  benefitting the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles organization!

Winning bidder, James Slattery from San Diego was the lucky fan to take home the special edition 'Stang with a bid of $398,000! While the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Mustang is the only one of its kind, its sale was especially noteworthy since all of the proceeds benefitted the EAA Young Eagles program! The program, which helps to inspire and motivate the next generation of leaders, aviators, and innovators, has provided free introductory flights to more than 1.6 million young people since 1992!

Not only was the vehicle honored with VIN 0001, it celebrates and commemorates the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Ford's design and engineering teams were able to capture and incorporate the two recognizable symbols that are displayed by both the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and Ford Motor Company: dedication and excellence!

The new U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Mustang is accompanied by five other unique Mustangs that were developed by Ford for the program in recent years! ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich.- In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Ford Motor Company has done something extremely special and created a new 2014 Ford Mustang GT! Inspired by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the special 2014 Ford Mustang mirrors the jet's glossy red, white, and blue paint scheme.

Equipped with a 5.0-liter engine, the one-of-a-kind 2014 Ford Mustang interior features a modified navigation screen, instrument cluster, rear seat-delete, unique sill plates, and puddle lamps that project the aircraft silhouette when the doors are open. Additional special features include embroidered Thunderbirds elements on the vehicle's Recaro seats.

When it comes to exterior updates, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds inspired 2014 Ford Mustang features unique treatments like wide body modifications, handcrafted "belly pan" that resembles the F-16 appearance, and custom 22-inch wheels.

So why did Ford Motor Company build a special 2014 Mustang inspired by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds? Edsel B. Ford II noted that two distinguishing qualities of the Air Force: dedication and excellence, are also celebrated at Ford, so the automaker wanted to capture the symbols and pair them with Ford's innovation. It's safe to say Ford has done just that.
