Service Engine Light
If you notice that your Service Engine light is illuminated on your vehicle's dashboard, it usually means that your vehicle needs maintenance soon; possible an oil change or service. When you visit your local service center the light will be reset, or if you prefer to perform your vehicle maintenance yourself, your owners manual may explain how to reset it.
Battery Light
An illuminated Battery Light is important to pay attention to since it can be warning you that the vehicle's electrical system has malfunctioned. Continuing to drive with a faulty battery can cause the engine to give out when power runs out.
Check Engine Light
The Check Engine light isn't as easy to diagnose and can turn on for a number of reasons. But, it should not be ignored since the severity of the problem can range. You can either purchase an OBD2 diagnostic tool that will allow you to read the fault code and reset the system, or you can visit a service center and they will read the codes for you. While some places do charge for this service, many do not.
Oil Warning Light
An illuminated Oil Warning light is cause for immediate attention since it's warning that your oil pressure is low and needs service as soon as possible. Do not ignore the Oil Warning Light since low oil pressure can completely ruin your engine.
Coolant Warning Light
When your vehicle's Coolant Warning Light turns on, it means that your radiator needs attention. Generally you just need to add a pre-mixed store bought coolant to your radiator. However, ALWAYS wait for the engine to cool completely before opening the radiator cap. A hot engine could spray you with boiling hot coolant.
Brake Warning Lights
Another difficult vehicle warning light to diagnose is the Brake Warning Light. If your Brake Warning Light turns on, check your owners manual for the exact meaning because it can differ from car to car. However, on ABS-equipped vehicles, the ABS light should be take more seriously and receive maintenance immediately, especially if the light is blinking, since that is an indicator the situation could be as severe as dead brakes.
